World Day Against Child Labour 2020
World Day Against Child Labour 2020
Hey, friends, today I would write about "The World Day Against Child Labour 2020"in this blog.
Friends, we know that child labour is not good for the country. The children are our country's future. They must be given good healthcare and education. They must have freedom for their way of life and they must not be trapped in a scenario of poor education and health.
In our country, a rule is implemented which states that it is compulsory that children aged between 6 to 14 must have elementary school. But still, it seems that it is not applied in the country till now.
So, talking about The World Day Against Child Labour,it is an International Labour Organization (ILO)-sanctioned holiday which was first launched in 2002 aiming to raise awareness and activism against the practice of child labour and to prevent it in the near future. It was spurred by ratifications of ILO Convention No. 138 on the minimum age for employment and ILO Convention No. 182 on the worst forms of child labour.
The World Day Against Child Labour, which is held every year on June 12, is intended to foster the worldwide movement against child labour in any of its forms.
Now, the situation is getting even worse. Our world is facing a global recession in this year because of the disease of coronavirus or Covid-19.So, The World Day Against Child Labour 2020 will focus on the impact of crisis on child labour in this pandemic's situation. The COVID-19 health pandemic and the resulting economic and labour market shock are having a huge impact on people’s lives and livelihoods.
Unfortunately children are often the first ones to suffer. This crisis would push millions of vulnerable children or those children who are very poor but still have not chose child labour into child labour. Already, there are an estimated 152 million children trapped in the scenario of child labour in the whole globe, 72 million of which are working in dangerous and breathtaking hazardous works such as mining industry, chemical industries, etc.
These children are now at even greater risk of facing circumstances that are even more difficult and working longer hours because of this pandemic.
Talking about India, there are more than 10 million child labourers according to the latest census. They are very much affected due to this coronavirus pandemic.
The affected children also consists of the children who were among the migrant labourers. Well, many of us would know what was the situation of the migrant labourers during this crisis and lockdown. They were walking to their homes hundreds of kilometres away on the basis of their barefoot only with the means of very little food and money. Many are kept confined to their workplace by employers. Even their employers often beat them and treat them harshly when their work is not done properly. Images on television have often shown us the degree of suffering that the children face.
So, lets hope friends that this pandemic may end soon and everything returns to normalcy do that at least these children would not get affected.
We hope that you would like this blog.
